Froggymouth is a small removable device made from a material flexible, TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) that contains no latex or phthalates, created by Dr. Patrick Fellus (Specialist in dentofacial orthopedics, CHU Robert Debré, Paris), taking a cue from the research of Eric Kandel (Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine) on biological mechanisms of memory storage.

Mechanism of Action

Froggymouth revolutionizes the approach to Myofunctional Rehabilitation acting as a suction-deglutition inhibitor and interrupting the pathological loop by preventing bilabial contact and forcing the tongue to position itself correctly, re-educating atypical swallowing, and lingual posture, and restoring nasal breathing.

This new swallowing pattern will allow the establishment of a new mnemonic engram/trace and this will occur at the subcortical level causing permanent biochemical changes at the synaptic level.

How Does Froggymouth Work?

The Froggymouth Device is a passive myofunctional therapy tool to improve swallow function. Tongue thrusters will learn to elevate the tongue into the palate to swallow, based on neurologic adaptability that creates a new functional pattern: during swallowing, the teeth come lightly in contact and the tongue pushes against the palate. We have found this incredibly helpful with our patients, especially when used in conjunction with Myofunctional Therapy.

• Wear it, once or twice a day, for 15 minutes, to quickly and effectively develop a new way of swallowing. 

• Wear it in front of a raised TV screen or computer. Avoid any posture with a bowed head. 

• The patient's attention should be held by the screen so that the new way of swallowing becomes automatic and natural.
